More sustainable mobility for Barça’s partial return to the Spotify Camp Nou
A joint plan has been developed with the club and local residents for more efficient use of the metro, bus and tram systems, as well as routes for cyclists, pedestrians and personal mobility vehicles to get to the stadium on match days. Local residents are guaranteed access to their homes on any means of transport, with private vehicle access restricted in the streets affected the most in terms of traffic, such as C/ Mejía Lequerica and the vicinity of C/ Felipe de Paz.The main goal of the sustainable mobility plan designed for the club’s partial return to the Spotify Camp Nou is greater agility for getting to and from the stadium, prioritising sustainable mobility, guaranteeing local residents’ access to their homes and preserving routes on foot and space for pedestrians.
FC Barcelona will make a staggered return to the Spotify Camp Nou: in the first stage the stadium will have around 60% of the planned overall capacity, around 65,000 supporters. Before the work, the overall capacity was for more than 99,000 people.
Supporters are expected to reach the stadium using the following means:
- On foot: 23,695 people (36.5%)
- By car: 16,843 people and 7,018 vehicles (25.9%)
- By metro: 11,160 people (17.1%)
- By motorcycle: 3,883 people and 2,678 vehicles (6%)
- By coach: 3,300 people and 66 vehicles (5.1%)
- By bus: 3,042 people (4.7%)
- By tram: 1,500 people (2.3%)
- By taxi: 1,296 people and 540 vehicles (2%)
- By Bicing: 176 people (0.3%) and by bike and PMVs: 104 people (0.2%)
Main measures in the sustainable mobility plan
The plan is structured into the following areas: organisation of the various means of transport, paying special attention to mobility on foot (accounting for the largest volume), exits for coaches, organisation of taxis and access restrictions for private vehicles (motorcycles and cars) and the areas with the largest build-ups of traffic in areas near residential housing.
Access guaranteed for residents living near the Spotify Camp Nou.
Local people will be able to access their homes at all times and with any form of transport, including private vehicles. They will be allowed to use the bus lanes in the opposite direction in Trav. Les Corts and Av. Madrid.
Public transport
Current transport options will be optimised: three metro lines (L3, L5 and L9S/L10S), three tram lines (T1, T2 and T3) and ten urban and interurban bus lines (7, 33, 67, 54, H6, H8, V1, V3, V5, D20 and 113 and 175 on working days).
Private vehicles
Routes to and from the stadium for cars, with the exception of those heading to the car park at the stadium, will prioritise the perimeter formed by Av. Diagonal, Gran Via de Carles III and Av. Doctor Marañon, to access on-street parking as well as the different private car parks in this area. Vehicles heading towards the stadium car park will have to use Trav. Les Corts, Av. Joan XXIII, C/ Doctor Marañón and C/ Arístides Maillol.
Traffic restrictions will apply in C/ Mejía Lequerica and in the vicinity of C/ Felipe de Paz. The plan is only to allow access for authorised vehicles, such as those belonging to local residents, car park users and public services. This restriction will affect the whole street. Four permanent traffic checkpoints will be established with cameras in the bus lane in the opposite direction in Trav. Les Corts, in C/ Benavent with Trav. Les Corts, in C/ Arizala with C/ Felip de Paz and the bus lane in the opposite direction in Av. Madrid, providing local residents with access on match days.
An additional 2,000 parking spaces for motorcycles will be added in the area of the Zona Universitària del Campus Sud, bringing parking capacity here to 3,000. An information campaign will be conducted to organise motorcycle access and preserve pavements for pedestrian use.
Coaches dropping off passengers in the upper section of C/ Martí i Franquès, next to Av. Diagonal, will be able to park on the FC Barcelona site in Av. Xile, between C/ Doctor Marañon and C/ Pintor Ribalta. For passengers boarding coaches, the vehicles will be parked along the length of C/ Doctor Marñon and occupy both lanes in the direction of the mountains, to then exit into the central section of Av. Diagonal.
A taxi stop will be established in C/ Menéndez y Pelayo, with the existing spaces for public services here also to be maintained.
