The 37th America’s Cup is being held in Barcelona from 22 August to 27 October. As the largest competition in the world of sailing, the event is expected to attract a large number of visitors.

The City Council and the Port have produced a mobility plan in conjunction with the event organisers, in anticipation of the crowds expected to gather in this part of the city.

On foot

Wherever possible, people are advised to prioritise getting around on foot. Specific signage will be installed to guide pedestrians and various steps taken to adapt routes for them, such as the way crossings are organised and some improvements to traffic lights.

A special version of the municipal “Getting there” tool is also being prepared, showing mobility disruptions and recommendations for getting about while the competition is on.

Boost to public transport

Public transport will reach all the points of the event with no limitations, with extra services on competitions days, when larger numbers of spectators are expected. This is the case with the L4 metro services, and the following bus services: D20, V15, V19, V21, V23, V25, V27, H16 and 47.

A new double bus lane will also be created in C/ Trelawny, between Pg. Marítim and C/ Doctor Aiguader. This work will be carried out early in July.

Taxis and chauffeur-driven cars (with bookings or passengers) will be able to circulate. Chartered coaches will also be able to get to and from the area to let passengers on and off, but without parking.

Journeys by bike or personal mobility vehicles

Bikes and personal mobility vehicles will be able to access the area, which will have four secure parking areas with nearly 400 places. The Bicing service will also be reinforced, with two new temporary stations. One of the recommended routes for reaching Barceloneta will be the new bike lane which is currently being completed in Pg. Joan de Borbó.

Restrictions for private vehicles

The use of private vehicles may be restricted depending on dates, time and the volume of visitors. People who live or work in Barceloneta or who have a parking place for their vehicle inside the neighbourhood (green zone or public or private parking) will be able to get specific accreditation allowing them unlimited movement.

For non-residents, park and ride facilities will be set up in the Fòrum area and at Fira de Barcelona in L’Hospitalet, with shuttle buses connecting these to the competition area. Motorbikes and mopeds will be allowed into the area, with new parking zones added for them.

Goods distribution

Urban goods distribution vehicles will also be able to circulate without restrictions. Temporary new loading and unloading spaces will be available, with longer operating hours from 7 am to 9 pm to compensate for possible restrictions during the competition.

Updated information can be found on the specific mobility website for the America’s Cup.
