Eight large facilities to get solar panelling to generate green energy
Boost for the generation of green energy with the installation of solar panelling at seven large municipal facilities and a Special Work Centre and Occupational Centre. The initiative comes within the context of MES Barcelona, a tool to speed up the energy transition in the city with the support of private investment. The public-private collaboration project MES Barcelona was launched in 2021 and promotes the installation of solar panelling and energy renovation.
The agreements signed with previously authorised private investors establish the institutional commitment to include the following facilities in renewable energy projects:
- Mercabarna, S.A: additional new solar panelling (second stage of public rooftops) of 5,808 MWp, which will occupy a surface of roughly125,000 square metres. Mercabarna will become the biggest solar panelling plant in the Spanish state generating power for its own consumption.
- Taller Escola Barcelona (TEB Sant Andreu), Special Work Centre and Occupational Centre: additional new solar installation of 47,35 kWp, occupying a surface of 310 square metres.
- UNED Barcelona: first solar installation of 9,35 kWp, covering a surface of roughly 72.6 square metres.
- CEM Nova Icària: first solar installation of 96,6 kWp, covering a surface of approximately 770.8 square metres.
- CEM Colom: first solar installation of 75,6 kWp, covering a surface of approximately 481.6 square metres.
- CEM Can Ricart: first solar installation of 118.7 kWp covering a surface of approximately 1,300.2 square metres.
- CEM Espanya Industrial: first solar installation of 140,9 kWp covering a surface of approximately 1,275.6 square metres.
- Museu de Ciències Naturals de Barcelona: first solar installation of 682,90 kWp covering a surface of approximately 6,133 square metres.
The environmental and social impact indicators for these projects determine that their total power output will be 6,785,76 kWp, equating to a reduction of 2,424,15 tonnes of CO2 a year.
MES Barcelona in owner-tenant communities
This project also extends renewable energies to owner-tenant communities in the city, with over a hundred rooftop solar panelling projects currently registered for buildings, 15 of which are now making their way through the administrative procedure.
