Proposals from municipal groups in the full council meeting of 22 March 2024
March’s full council meeting approved one proposal, put forward by Junts-TriasxBCN and calling for Barcelona to exercise its leadership as the capital of Catalonia with various measures. The proposals from BComú, the PP and Vox were rejected, as was the proposal from the ERC with content for an institutional declaration.The first proposal in the government control and input part of the meeting was from Junts per Catalunya – Trias per Barcelona, calling on the City Council to exercise its leadership as the capital of Catalonia, with measures such as a report on the deficit of fiscal balances and the lack of investment, the defence of the language model and democratic freedoms. The Full Council approved the proposal with votes from Junts-Trias×BCN, BComú and the ERC, while the PSC, the PP and Vox voted against it.
Barcelona en Comú called for the City Council to reject the opening of new hotels in the city centre, to protect local people from the pressure of tourism and its effects. The proposal was rejected, with BComú voting in favour while Junts-Trias×BCN, the PP and Vox voted against it and the PSC and the ERC abstained.
The Partit Popular urged the municipal government to include a package of tax benefits for families, self-employed workers and companies in the next tax by-laws. The Full Council rejected the proposal, with the PP and Vox voting in favour, while the PSC, BComú and the ERC voted against it and Junts-Trias×BCN abstained.
The proposal from Vox called for free circulation in the city, and for the City Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra to work together to guarantee this. The proposal was rejected, with the PP and Vox voting in favour, while Junts-Trias×BCN, the PSC, BComú and the ERC voted against it.
The proposal put forward by Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya contained content for an institutional declaration noting the ill effects for the city caused by the rejection of the budget for the Government of Catalonia for 2024. The Full Council rejected the proposal, with the PSC and the ERC voting in favour, while Junts-Trias×BCN, BComú, the PP and Vox voted against it.
