Schools make increasing use of the Fab Lab Network
The Municipal Fab Lab Network (XAF) provided services for schools on 226 occasions during the 2021-2022 academic year. Nearly one in three schools used the network or received training, advice or support for projects from one of the five centres of this type operating in the city.Much of this success is down to training and support itineraries designed to help teachers integrate digital manufacturing tools into educational practices.
One highlight is the digital manufacturing programme, particularly relevant in terms of the gender perspective, fostering science and technology vocations among young people and sustainability. This is offered in a coordinated manner through the Barcelona Education Consortium and the Fab Lab Network.
The programme is one of those with the highest demand among teachers. Its goal is for schools to come into contact with digital manufacturing and act as a training tool for teachers, enabling them to use technological tools to develop projects which autonomously transform and improve their environment.
The number of requests to take part in the digital manufacturing programme has risen every year since 2019 to the point where they have doubled: there were 19 requests for the 2019-2020 school year and 40 for the current 2022-2023 year.
The Fab Lab Network is made up of the following centres: Les Corts, Fàbrica del Sol, Gràcia, Parc Tecnològic and Ciutat Meridiana.
