Forest fire risk alert activated
Barcelona City Council has activated the alert stage of its Municipal Action Plan for Forest Fire Risk. This comes after the Catalan government raised its Alpha Plan for the Barcelonès county to level 3 due to the extremely high risk of forest fires.Today is one of the highest risk days for forest fires in the city this year. The seven fire stations of the Barcelona Fire Service will remain on alert due to the increased likelihood of fires in woodland areas.
Now more than ever, the city is urging people to exercise the utmost caution and cooperation. It is important to remember that, since 15 March, it has been forbidden to carry out any forestry work or activities that produce sparks within 500 metres of woodland areas. This includes a ban on waste-burning and barbecues.
The Barcelona Fire Service campaign began in early June and will continue until mid-September. During this period, the Civil Protection, Prevention, Fire Extinction and Rescue Service (SPCPEIS) is adapting and stepping up its resources to face the summer months and provide a quick and effective response to possible forest fires during the hottest months in the city.
Teams are deployed throughout the nearly 1,800 hectares of parkland belonging to the city of Barcelona, spread across the districts of Les Corts, Sarrià – Sant Gervasi, Horta-Guinardó and Nou Barris.
