Pre-registration period for the city’s municipal music schools now open
The application period for the 2021-2022 academic year at the five municipal music schools in Barcelona is open from 29 April to 6 May inclusive. The pre-registration process is entirely online and only available in person in exceptional cases, by appointment at the chosen centre.
Between them, the five schools (EMM Can Fargues, EMM Can Ponsic, EMM Eixample – Joan Manuel Serrat, EMM Nou Barris and EMM Sant Andreu – Mestre Pich Santasusana) are offering 462 places, distributed by age and specialist instruments. The musical instruction offered has been adapted to the preventive measures from the health and education authorities due to the Covid-19 health crisis.
Municipal music schools offer music instruction for nearly 3,000 students in all. The range of training offered is diverse, with long-term programmes for different instruments, styles, groups of instruments and choral singing, as well as music workshops for toddlers and their families and activities for the over-18s. Long-term programmes are aimed at students from 4 or 5 years old, and the five centres have a capacity of more than 2,300 places. In terms of workshops, the schools are expected to offer 500 places for the 2021-2022 academic year.
In line with the government measure implemented by the City Council at the end of 2018 for a policy of culture and education, these municipal services are bolstering their musical education projects by linking them to other artistic languages, as well as connecting their activity with publicly operated schools and community projects.
Once the pre-registration period concludes, the access calendar for courses at municipal music schools is as follows:
- 10 May: publication of lists of registered students
- 13 to 20 May: musical exercises for students aged 8 upwards
- 26 May: publication of scale-assessed applications
- 26 to 31 May: period for any challenges to be lodged
- 4 June: definitive publication of students with places
- 7 to15 June: enrolment
Barcelona Municipal Music Conservatory
The process is already under way for students applying for the professional music degree at the Barcelona Municipal Music Conservatory for the 2021-2022 academic year, with 113 new places available. Auditions will be held on 17 and 21 May (two exercises) and the list of students with places should be published on 9 June.
The conservatory has a capacity for 540 students and offers 25 music specialities.
