New regulation to help create larger inner yards and atriums in buildings
The Full Council has authorised an amendment to the urban plan regulating the dimensions of yards and atriums so that they can be bigger than the minimum size required for them not to be considered as built space. The improvement in ventilation and natural light increases the energy of buildings and makes them more sustainable.
The addition of bioclimate atriums will be allowed in new buildings and the renovation of existing buildings alike.
The goal is to improve the energy efficiency and environmental quality of the interior thanks to the addition of larger spaces for the renewal of air, which also allow more natural light in.
The Barcelona sub-commission for urban planning must approved the regulation before it comes into force.
