New model for more community-based neighbourhood centres
New government measure to transform neighbourhood centres into more community-based facilities, better adapted to each neighbourhood’s needs. The new model includes a range of essential services, to be combined with each centre’s own projects, adapting to local singularities. The measure will be rolled out between now and 2027 with an investment of 17 million euros covering the transformation and the operation of centres.
The range of essential services includes the creation of a community well-being and cure service, to be implemented in eight neighbourhood centres in the city. These facilities will act as community spaces centring on people’s well-being, addressing social aspects, health and community cohesion. The service also includes cultural activities to foster social cohesion through art and culture.
Neighbourhood centres are to become drivers for active participation, with users playing a key role in managing and programming activities at facilities, which must continue to function as meeting and empowerment spaces for people.
The centres where the community well-being and care service will be set up are:
- Casal de Barri La Barraca del Carmel, in the district of Horta-Guinardó
- Lleialtat Santsenca Sants, in the district of Sants-Montjuïc
- Casal de Barri de Congrés-Indians, in the district of Sant Andreu
- Casal de Barri del Maresme, in the district of Sant Martí
- Casal de Barri de Torre Baró i de Vallbona, in the district of Nou Barris
- Casal de Barri de Cardener, in the district of Gràcia
- Casal de Barri Espai Putxet, in the district of Sarrià – Sant Gervasi
- Casal de Barri del Raval, in the district of Ciutat Vella
This government measure represents a step towards the creation of a city model where neighbourhood centres are authentic hubs for social cohesion and citizen participation, guaranteeing the transformation and adaption to the current needs of local people.
