New urban features to add vitality to terraces and areas around schools
A test period is under way with new urban features to add vitality to extended terraces and areas around schools where measures have been introduced to reduce traffic. The new elements will help adapt public space further to address the challenges posed by the Covid-19 health crisis.The new features will be tested to assess whether they should be introduced in other terraces and areas around schools.
Clearly defined terraces
The structure consists of a wooden platform which effectively extends the pavement and sets out the extended terrace area on the road surface.
The platform is being tested at a restaurant on the corner between C/ València and C/ Casanova.
More life in areas around schools
The traffic-calmed area around the Escola Sagrada Família is being used to try out a wooden stand for sitting on, for recreational activity and the promotion of children’s play next to schools.
The new features were designed by the ELISAVA and the IAAC.
