Some schools now have spaces where their final buildings will be located. They are:

  • The Escola Gaia will be housed in two halls of the former umbrella factory at C/ Dos de Maig, 189
  • The Escola Xirinacs will be housed in one of the halls in La Model
  • The Escola Entença will be built on the former fire service site at C/ Provença, 178.

The calendar has also been agreed for the creation of the Escola Cal Maiol, the Escola Mallorca and the Escola Els 30 Passos, which will become an all-through school from the next academic year. The Escola Xirinacs will be an all-through centre from the 2026-2027 school year, as will the Escola Cal Maiol and Escola Mallorca when they get their definitive premises.

Other matters addressed during the meeting included the increase of 7 million euros which the Ministry for Education will use for enlargement and improvement work around city schools, and the commitment to maintain the increase for 2026. This will mean the current 3.5 million euros will rise to 10.5 million euros. Much of the new budgetary item will be used to improve energy efficiency and accessibility at secondary schools and all-through schools in the city. The Barcelona Education Consortium will be responsible for managing the construction of the new schools and will be able to directly carry out work for less than 15 million euros.

A commitment has also been established to work on the integration of five nursey schools managed by the Education Consortium and the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Education (IMEB) with the goal of standardising the options offered.
