Nearly eighty measures planned as part of the Neighbourhood Plan in 2024
This year represents a big step for the Barcelona Neighbourhood Plan, the municipal initiative to eliminate inequalities between the different neighbourhoods in the city. The rollout of the plan means implementing 79 projects, with an overall budget of 77 million euros.The Neighbourhood Plan 2021-2024 includes projects in 23 city neighbourhoods and will see measures implemented in spheres such as education, health, housing, jobs, quality of public space, environmental sustainability and the climate emergency.
Following an initial stage of work to define the projects with local residents, work on the first of them is now in progress. Over forty projects are due to get under way in 2022.
Notable actions for the Neighbourhood Plan
Notable projects planned for 2022 include:
- Can Seixanta. This project will enable the Espai Juvenil Kn60 youth centre to move into the ground floor premises at this facility in El Raval. The project includes a study and work room for cultural, teaching and innovative tech projects.
- Improvements to accessibility in C/ Llopis and C/ Cirerers, in Les Roquetes.
- Transformation of the Jardins de les Hortes de Sant Bertran, in Poble-Sec.
- Range of facilities at Can Peguera. The project will improve connections and accessibility in two neighbourhoods.
- Improvements to facilities at the football ground in El Carmel. This will help foster sport and physical activity in the neighbourhood of El Carmel and Can Baró.
- Institut Escola Rec Comtal, in Trinitat Vella. Besides improving facilities at the school, support will be given to the education project based around STEAM subjects (science, tech, engineering, arts and maths).
- Institut Galileo Galilei and Escola Prosperitat.
- Mirades and Coves d’en Cimany, in El Carmel. This project will enable two all-through schools to be created.
The Barcelona Neighbourhood Plan is an initiative designed to combat inequalities between city neighbourhoods through the application of new public policies and the involvement of local people in developing projects with an impact.
