Slight drop in the number of abandoned animals and adoptions at the CAAB
The first half of the year saw 270 animals adopted from the Barcelona Pet Shelter (CAACB), 145 dogs and 125 cats. The figure is similar to last year, but fewer animals have entered the shelter, suggesting that fewer animals have been lost or abandoned.Summer is the time when the number of cats entering the centre increases, as this is when kittens are born. It is important to promote their swift adoption and find homes for nursing kittens during these early moments of their lives. In contrast, the volume of dogs entering the shelter is stable throughout the year.
Animals must have an identification chip to be returned to their owners, yet many of those entering the shelter do not have one.
Apart from the constant flow of animals entering and leaving the CAACB, the centre is currently home to an average of 200 dogs, most of them breeds considered potentially dangerous, and around 90 cats.
Adopting an animal is an act of responsibility and before doing so it is important to consider carefully which one to choose, taking into account the type of animal, its size, coat, age and sex. More information on the adoption process: https://ajuntament.barcelona.cat/benestaranimal/ca/adopcio
