The meeting addressed joint areas of work between the City Council and the government, who agreed to hold another meeting on 20 October to give continuity to the meetings by the Generalitat – Barcelona City Council Joint Commission.

Housing as a priority

The promotion of affordable housing policies will be one of the priorities for the two administrations, as agreed today in the first meeting between the Mayor and the President of Catalonia.

In an effort to boost the public housing stock, the City Council has offered 27 plots of land at different points around the city which between them could be used to start building 1,764 homes. Fourteen of these sites could immediately be leased to the Catalan Land Institute, INCASOL, and used for 811 flats, while the other 13 could gradually become available during the current term of office (953 flats).

Fulfilment of the budget agreement

The meeting was also used to review the budget agreement which the Catalan government signed with the PSC on 1 February, in particular the mobility and public transport projects still to be funded.

In addition, the two leaders addressed the commitment to post 600 new police officers in Barcelona from Catalonia’s Mossos d’Esquadra corps, starting with an initial posting of 215 officers.
