Keys handed over for 42 flats with affordable rents in the neighbourhood of El Besòs i el Maresme
The homes are located at C/ Pallars, 487, in the district of Sant Martí. The families going to live in the flats will pay a monthly social rent that does not exceed 30% of their income. The building is one of the tallest blocks in the city to be built with wood, gaining a TOP3 Sustainability award at the Construmat fair in 2023 in recognition of sustainability in the construction process. The homes have been allocated as follows: twelve flats for people under the age of 35; ten for local people from the surrounding neighbourhoods (Provençals del Poblenou, Diagonal Mar and Front Marítim del Poblenou, Sant Martí de Provençals, La Verneda i la Pau, and El Besòs i el Maresme); four homes for single-parent families, and two adapted homes for people with reduced mobility. The rest were awarded to applicants from the Barcelona register of officially protected homes.
The seven-floor block has 42 flats and was built using industrialised methods to cut building times and gain in sustainability. The structure is made entirely of wood, from 1,103 pieces, with material from sustainable forests. The homes have a useful floor space of between 52 and 61 square metres and all have two bedrooms and a balcony.
Work on this block began in October 2022 and involved an investment of more than 5.5 million euros.
