Improvements to the mobile phone network and 5G coverage along the coast
New communication infrastructure has been installed in at 14 different locations in collaboration with private operators, bringing improved coverage to the neighbourhoods of Barceloneta, Vila Olímpica and Poblenou within the context of the America’s Cup. The goal of the work, carried out at no cost to the City Council, is to improve quality of service and provide 5G coverage along the seafront.

The new installations are:
- Cellular base station on the façade of the Club Natació Atlètic Barceloneta
- Cellular base stations at the territorial delegation of the Spanish Meteorology Agency.
- Innovative “small cell” mobile antennas on lampposts in Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta.
- Antenna distributions systems on lampposts in Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta and in Passeig Marítim del Bogatell.
5G coverage
The latter two installations are particularly innovative and should help define the rollout of 5G coverage for the rest of the city.
A modern and well-established telecommunications network at the service of people, companies and major events will help position Barcelona as one of southern Europe’s technology hubs.
All the costs of improvements to the telephone network are borne by mobile phone companies, with no associated costs for the City Council.
