Greater labour inclusion for people with disabilities
The Municipal Instititute for People with Disabilities and Barcelona Activa are rolling out a plan for social inclusion, employment and economic promotion for people with disabilities in the labour market. The plan builds on action already being taken, at the same time strengthening collaboration with organisations in the sphere of the social economy and the third sector, leading the way in the field of inclusion.According to data from the Statistical Institute of Catalonia, employment among people with disabilities stood at 28% in 2021, some 2.6% lower than in 2020, while the unemployment rate was 20.6%, some 9.2% above the figure for people without disabilities. In terms of wage increases for people with disabilities, these were lower than for the rest of workers, meaning the wage gap was bigger in 2020, increasing from -25.8% to -26.2% in 2021.
In light of this, the plan focuses on three spheres of action: active employment policies for people with disabilities, enterprise and strengthening business in the area of the social economy, and disability, visibility and awareness.
Eighteen actions are being taken in these three areas, including alliances with institutions and organisations involved in the labour insertion of people with disabilities, improvements in digital training, guarantees that 7% of job contracts will be for people with disabilities on municipal employment plans and more.
