Work begins on the Sagrera and Espronceda municipal sports centres
The two new sports centres in the district of Sant Andreu are expected to open in the last quarter of 2025. The projects involve an investment of 27 million euros.Espronceda Municipal Sports Complex
The new CEM Espronceda is located at C/ Espronceda, 320 and 322-324, in the Navas neighbourhood, and will become a reference point for physical activity, with a new triple multi-sports hall and particularly with spaces for minority sports such as table tennis, artistic gymnastics and archery. The project is being carried out on a site of 2,495 m2, with a budget of 16,327,244.08 euros.
The facility is divided into two large spaces. On one side, a building with a ground floor and five floors in line with C/ Espronceda, which will have areas for table tennis and artistic gymnastics, and the sports hall, inside the quadrangle.
The basement of the main building will be used for indoor archery, with a range, some changing rooms and a storeroom specifically for this sport. The same floor will have the main court for the sports hall, along with the corresponding changing rooms. The ground floor will have a multi-purpose space for local people to use, plus the reception and the office space for the centre. This floor will also have a specific parking areas for two-wheeled vehicles. From here, there will be direct access to the stands. The first floor will be for table tennis and also include a multi-purpose room for physical preparation by different clubs and users at the sports complex.
Finally, the two double upper floors in the main building, giving onto C/ Espronceda, will be used for artistic gymnastics, with fully adapted changing rooms and storerooms exclusively for this activity. There will also be a mezzanine observation floor here for spectators or relatives.
The project includes criteria for maximum energy self-sufficiency, water and environmental excellence, as well as a boost to greenery and biodiversity.
La Sagrera Municipal Sports Complex
The CEM La Sagrera will be located at C/ Bonaventura Gispert, 37-47. The site covers an area of 3,927 m2 and will consists of three floors. The complex will have two open-air swimming pools, the main one measuring 25×16.5 metres and the other measuring 16.5×6 metres. In a second stage, a moving roof and a climate control system will be installed, enabling year-round use. In the recreation area at the pool there will be a green area of nearly 500 m2, with native vegetation. The centres will also have a solarium of over 1,000 m2, two padel courts, four rooms for supervised activities, a large bodybuilding area, a meeting area with a bar and communal services.
The project includes criteria for maximum energy self-sufficiency (making use of residual heat from the cooling cycle, photovoltaic generation with solar panels on the roof, cooling recovery from the aerothermal heat pump etc.), as well as water self-sufficiency criteria and other criteria relating to environmental excellence and LEED certification. The estimated budget for the work, according to the project, is 10,615,846 euros, VAT included.
