Firefighters start using new premises at the Port Olímpic
The Port Olímpic has a new space for use by the Barcelona Fire Service. With a floor space of 60 square metres, the premises will enable the service to carry out tasks linked to its work along the coast, providing better coverage in this part of the city. The bathing area, the 200-metre strip of beach, the port area and the 50 metres of coast considered as municipally owned here (breakwaters and areas of risk) will now have their own rapid intervention space if required, which will also be available to assist other corps providing maritime intervention.
Coastal campaign
The annual coastal campaign is activated early in June to offer lifesaving and rescue services and emergency assistance along and around the coast, along with the prevention of activities posing risks in the maritime and port area, more in-depth knowledge of risks and the surroundings and helping towards a better culture of aquatic rescue techniques.
During this year’s campaign, the Barcelona Fire Service has carried out 76 preventive actions with boats belonging to the corps and provided technical assistance on six occasions, including collaboration with the Lifeguard Service in response to a fuel leak from a boat anchored at the entrance to the Port Olímpic.
The aquatic rescue group with the Barcelona Fire Service is made up of 36 people and three boats.
