In all, 649 City Police officers will be mobilised, a similar figure to the last time with the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia on 12 May. The work of these officers begins on Saturday, as the corps is responsible for collecting all the electoral documentation from the Electoral Board for the Barcelona Area (at the Ciutat de la Justícia) and taking it to the 299 polling stations around the city.

On election day, from 7 am to the end of the day, the City Police will be working to ensure that 133 of these polling stations operate smoothly, with the Mossos d’Esquadra taking responsibility for the rest. Besides permanent surveillance to ensure the election is carried out smoothly, other tasks include:

  • Handing over all the electoral documentation to the representatives from the administration.
  • Notifying the legal constitution of voting points. There will be 1,688 of these in all.
  • Notifying the opening and closing of polling stations and any incident that might hamper the constitution of voting points or the start of voting at the scheduled time.
  • Meeting and transporting legal officials to all points required.

If you want to know which polling station to vote at, what documents you need or anything else relating to the election, you can do so here.
