Construction begins on the bicycle lane on Gran Via between Plaça Espanya and Carrer de la Mineria
The bicycle lane that currently circulates on the pavements will be eliminated and moved to the road. There will be one lane in either direction in the side lanes of Gran Via.Construction has begun on a bicycle lane on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes between Plaça d’Espanya and Carrer de la Mineria to move the bicycle lane that currently runs along the side pavements of Gran Via to the side road lanes. The future bicycle lane will have stretches shared with circulating vehicles and stretches where the lane will be separate.
The action will begin on the side lane on the mountain (Sants) side with the construction of the pedestrian overpasses and a bus platform and work on the sewer and traffic lights. In early June, similar work will continue on the sea (Montjuïc) side.
In the summer, the lanes will be paved, and then the
bicycle lane signage will be put up. Once the new bicycle lane is in service, the lane on the
pavement will be removed.
Disruptions to mobility scheduled for April
In the first stretch between Plaça d’Espanya and Carretera de la Bordeta, the pavement will be cleaned, dismantled and replaced in the first few weeks of April, which will disrupt the pavement and service lane but not vehicle circulation. On Sunday 30 April, 7 May and 6 June, construction with disruptions is planned at the intersection with Gran Via. This will be done one half at a time, always keeping two lanes circulating and guaranteeing that the bus stops in the zone can still operate.
The second stretch runs from Carretera de la Bordeta to Carrer de Sant Roc. The project will involve the same work as in the first stretch in the last few weeks of April and will also affect the pavement and service lane. On Saturday 22 April, actions are planned on Carrer de Sant Roc which will disrupt vehicle circulation. The uphill direction will be closed and only the downhill direction towards Gran Via will remain open, while vehicles heading uphill will be diverted along Gran Via – Carretera de la Bordeta and will turn left on Sant Roc
The third stretch will be between Sant Roc and Carrer de Sant Pere Abanto from late April to early May. The construction work and disruptions will be the same as in the previous stretches. The main change will be from 24 April to 3 May to create an overpass at Carrer de Farell, which will close the side lane on Gran Via between Carretera de la Bordeta and Carrer de Sant Pere Abanto, which will only be open to residents and services. The traffic will be diverted to Carretera de la Bordeta – Carrer Moianès. Left turns from Carrer Sant Pere Abanto will be allowed, and the side stretches of Gran Via between Sant Roc and Sant Pere Abanto will become dead-ends. Carrer de Farell will be accessible from the side lane of Gran Via on the mountain side from Sant Pere Abanto.
Disruptions from May on
The fourth stretch between Carrer de Sant Pere Abanto and Carrer de Moianès is scheduled to begin in May. This will entail same disruptions of the pavements and service lane as in the previous stretches. From 2 to 8 May, due to the creation of an exclusive bicycle area in the centre of Gran Via, there are plans to close the side lane of Gran Via between Carrer de Farell and Carrer de Moianès, which will only be open to residents and services. Traffic will be diverted to Carrer de Farell – Carretera de la Bordeta – Carrer Moianès. Left turns will be allowed on Carrer de Sant Pere Abanto and the side lane of Gran Via between this street and the stretch under construction that will become a dead-end. The bus lane in the central part of Gran Via will also be occupied from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm.
The fifth stretch will run from Carrer Moianès to the extension of Carrer de Trajà on the mountain side. Just as in the previous stretches, there will be no disruptions to vehicle circulation. But from 8 to 12 May, due to the creation of an overpass for the bus stop, the side lane of Gran Via will be closed between Carrer Moianès and Carrer Mineria, which will only be open to residents and services. They will be diverted to the central part of Gran Via , which they will enter at Carrer Moianès. The car parks on the stretch under construction will be accessible from Carrer de la Mineria.
The bus lane in the central part of Gran Via will also be occupied from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. The Magòria bus stop (no. 2836) will be cancelled, and the bus will stop at the Campana stop (no. 895) in the central part of Gran Via.
During this same period, disruptions to circulation are planned at the intersection of the side lane on the mountain side of Gran Via at Carrer de Trajà. One lane will always be kept open for circulation.
Work on the sixth stretch between Carrer de Trajà and Carrer de Mossèn Amadeu Oller will bring disruptions in stretches of the pavement, and in order to create an overpass for the bus stop, the side lane of Gran Via will be closed between Carrer Mineria and Carrer Mossèn Amadeu Oller from 15 to 19 May, which will only be open to residents and services. Traffic will be diverted to the central part of Gran Via. The car parks on the stretch that is closed will be accessible from Carrer Mineria. Campana bus stop (no. 895) will continue to be used, and the bus lane in the central part will be occupied from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm.
