Barcelona's municipal open-air swimming pools open for the summer season
The city of Barcelona is ready to welcome everyone who wants to practice sport or relax and feel refreshed - with the Blue Pavilion, which encompasses more than 5 kilometres of beaches, and 14 municipal open-air swimming pools.
Now that summer’s arrived, Barcelona’s getting ready to offer a wide range of options for enjoying the water and beating the heat.
Water-saving initiatives at sports facilities
This year, all municipal open-air swimming pools have introduced measures aimed at reducing water consumption by 15%. One of the most important is the “One Shower, Three Minutes” campaign, which promotes responsible use of showers at these facilities. The campaign is part of Barcelona City Council’s efforts to raise awareness of the importance of saving water.
Renovation of facilities
One of the facilities that have been renovated is the swimming pool at the Guinardó Municipal Sports Centre, where accessibility has been improved by the construction of a ramp for people with reduced mobility. The Creueta del Coll lake has also opened its doors this summer with new changing rooms and refurbished toilets and showers, providing a more comfortable and accessible environment for all.
Distribution of swimming pools by district
The 14 open-air swimming pools are distributed throughout the city, covering eight different districts. These facilities are open seven days a week, and are accessible to all, including people with reduced mobility. Each pool has its own particular features, such as children’s areas and green zones, allowing users to enjoy a day of sun and cool water in a safe, pleasant environment.
