Barcelona Events Musicals to run El Molino

The company Barcelona Events Musicals, organisers of the Festival Cruïlla, will run the venue for the next four years with the possibility of extending the agreement for a maximum of four more. The idea behind the project to manage the legendary venue in Av. Paral·lel is to turn El Molino into a leading space for minority music in the city.

El Molino will be a fine showcase for rhythms such as rumba, singer-songwriter work, flamenco, roots music and more. In many cases, the collaboration and involvement of Barcelona organisations will be needed, such as El Dorado, Carabutsí, the Associació de Músics de Jazz or BarnaSants, as well as the city’s music schools, such as the Taller de Músics, the Conservatori del Liceu, the ESMUC and Jam Session. Promoting the venue outside the city will also need support from facilities such as L’Auditori and Paral·lel 62.

The programme includes activities linked to comedy, theatre and dance, as well as jam sessions, open mikes, music talks, festival presentations and rehearsals by artists, representing the city’s artistic diversity.

The project also has an educational side to it, in line with the city’s schools and including training workshops, masterclasses and school visits. A central aspect to the new El Molino will be its close relationship with other facilities in this area, such as Paral·lel 62, the Sala Apolo and the Centre Cultural Albareda. This will help boost the new range of cultural options in the avenue, helping in the drive to turn it into an important place for musical creativity in the city.
