Former Escola Marillac building to be acquired to house a new municipal nursery school
The Government Commission gave its approval this Thursday for the City Council to purchase the building at C/ Provença, 389, to be used to house a new municipal nursery school. The building was used for educational purposes until the 2021-2022 school year, but with the former Escola Marillac becoming part of the public network as the Institut Escola Sicília, this part of the building stopped being used. The building itself has over 2,000 square metres of floor space, with a further 743 metres of playground space. The City Council will invest 4.1 million euros to acquire the building. Once the purchase is completed, the project for the new school will need to be tendered and drafted, and work carried out to revamp the building to be used as a municipal nursery school with seven groups, for 104 infants from 4 months to 3 years old.
Thirteen homes purchased at the Casernes de Sant Andreu
The Government Commission has also approved the purchase of thirteen empty homes in Sant Andreu, for a total of 2.7 million euros. The flats belong to the Zona Franca Consortium and are part of a development of officially protected home to rehouse families affected by the transformation of the area around the former barracks known as ‘Les Casernes’. The flats are located at Pg. Torres i Bages, 130, and at C/ Teresa Boronat Fabra, 4. These thirteen flats were left over from the process and will now be used to boost the municipal housing stock.
