The Biblioteca Pública de l’Estat in Barcelona will serve as the city’s central urban library, on a metropolitan scale. It will have room for 600,000 volumes and its public section will include reading rooms, information rooms, a room for access to general and specialist collections, a room for children and young people, a daily-press room, a conference hall, multi-purpose rooms, internet-access rooms, self-service library-loan issuing machines, a rest area, exhibitions, a library cafeteria, an auditorium and a parking area.

As for the restricted-access areas, there will be specialist work and storage spaces for conserving works incorporated by legal deposit as Barcelona province publications.

The state-owned facility, whose management will be delegated to the Catalan government, and will receive an investment of 1.4 million euros.

Construction work on the future Biblioteca Pública de l’Estat in Barcelona is about to start. The 16,000-square-metre facility will be located next to França station and is expected to officially open in 2027.
