The recruits will get a total of 1,100 hours of training, through until 9 August this year, alongside another 1,250 officers from other police corps. Some of the instructors are also members of the City Police corps.

The recruits will have to successfully get through seven modules, most of them theory-based, to get a better understanding of the regulations that apply in different policing tasks, as well as practical training. Specifically, in the last module, “Cross-cutting training”, officers will have to resolve situations they might encounter during patrols, in a space known as the ‘Bulevard’ at the ISPC, consisting of a mock street and various types of establishments.

The basic training course corresponds to the penultimate stage of the process to join the City Police. After completing their training, the recruits will graduate as new officers and start the practical stage with different territorial units of the corps, accompanied by other officers with more experience.

Once the officers have been in service for a year, they will be named as career officers with the Barcelona City Police. Over 2,000 new posts with the City Police have been opened up since 2019: 293 places in 2019, 282 in 2020, 259 in 2021, 241 in 2022 and 132 in 2023, the current intake.
