Moloko Vellocet

Candela Capitán

MNAC - Sala Oval   07/07 - 14/07

One of today’s most accomplished performance artists turns the Sala Oval into a dance floor, recreating the famous club frequented by the main characters in A Clockwork Orange.

Moloko Vellocet is a dystopian place, an installation that wakes and falls asleep, a temporary club for an imperfect future, inspired by the Korova Milk Bar in Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange (1971), a film based on the 1962 novel of the same name by Anthony Burgess.

The Moloko Vellocet installation is an elixir of substances that, once dissolved, transform the MNAC’s Sala Oval into a club that is intermittently activated with The Death at the Club [in 45 min], a performance that has been touring across Europe since 2018.

Moloko Vellocet explores the spectacle of an allegorical club, the endurance of the body and the limits of dance with a large-scale installation performance that encourages the audience to reflect on issues that concern new and not-so-new generations: alienation, free will, the loss of childhood, violence and fear, or the supposed protective screen of social media. The music will be provided by three of the most influential DJs in today’s music scene, who have been part of the work since its inception.

Moloko Vellocet will be the Grec Festival de Barcelona début for Candela Capitán, one of the most famous names on the European performance scene. She has presented her projects, which are always transgressive, in such prominent venues and cities as documenta fifteen in Kassel, the CCCB in Barcelona and the Teatros del Canal in Madrid, among many others.

A show by Candela Capitán, co-produced by the Grec 2024 Festival de Barcelona and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.
