Extinction Rave

You may have already witnessed the birth of this show as part of the Creation and Museums programme at the Grec 2023 Festival de Barcelona. The members of the Mis Bragas Foundation, with the mediation of the Nau Ivanow, brought Extinction Rave [Diagnóstico de Situación] to the Museum of Natural Sciences. This was the embryo of the project that is now coming to the Teatre Lliure’s Espai Lliure, which questions the state of our world, dominated by a patriarchal ideology that has led to ecological collapse, pitting humanity against nature until the end of our civilisation. In this context, the Mis Bragas Foundation aims to offer an ‘ecofeminist perspective to examine the state of the planet and the contradictions of our time, as we slip precipitously towards the end of the world as we know it’. Natural and urban sounds are transformed into electronic music. They will invite us to reclaim our bodies and take collective control of them to rethink how we fit into and are part of the web of life. The performers will question the lens of modernity: the fantasy of independence between humankind and ‘nature’, and the hierarchy of subordination that places nature at the service of humans.  This is a semi-fictionalised contemporary ritual in which the language used is sound, light and corporal stimuli. 

It is a reflection on climate change and the—not too distant—possibility of witnessing our own extinction. Winner of the Institut del Teatre’s Adrià Gual Award, it aims to promote the work of young creators and performers, offering them production and exhibition support to raise their profile.

This piece won the Institut del Teatre’s Adrià Gual Award in 2023.
