Chano Domínguez / José Quevedo Bolita

Desvarío

Districte de Nou Barris   18/07 - 18/07

Jazz and flamenco. One of the most internationally renowned flamenco pianists and a guitarist devoted to hybridisation feature on the last day of the flamenco festival organised by the association El Dorado.

Chano Domínguez, from Cádiz, may well be the most important pianist in the middle ground between jazz and flamenco since Paco de Lucía. His musical career spans more than 40 years, some of which he has spent in Brooklyn. He has performed in the top venues in the United States and has become a touchstone for musicians such as Wynton Marsalis. We’ll have the chance to hear him in a piano concert that promises to be one of the highlights of this year’s Desvarío.

The second act of the evening will be the concert Caótico Bolita, featuring the guitarist José Quevedo, aka ‘Bolita’, accompanied on percussion by Paquito González and on double bass by Pablo Martín Caminero. ‘I don’t think of myself as a jazz musician; that’s not what I am or what I want to be. I’m a musician who not only plays an instrument with deep roots like the flamenco guitar, but I also have my own interests,’ he says, and these interests have led him to span the entire flamenco spectrum. He has played for Eva Yerbabuena, Sara Baras and Israel Galván, and for cantaores the likes of Carmen Linares, Arcángel and Miguel Poveda. The creator of records that blend flamenco with other musical styles, he recently released Fértil and will soon première the show entitled En libertad, composed with Joan Albert Amargós for Marina Heredia, on commission from the Duisburg Symphony Orchestra.

Desvarío is the heir of the Flamenco Festival in Nou Barris, which was founded in 2000 and ran for 17 years. El Dorado SFB has now taken over directing and managing the new festival in collaboration with the Nou Barris District. El Dorado SFB is a cultural association set up in 2007 with the aim of creating a regular space to promote and spread flamenco culture in Barcelona by viewing flamenco as a modern folk art.

Co-produced by Nou Barris District and El Dorado, Sociedad Flamenca Barcelonesa.

Supported by the Barcelona Grec Festival 2024.
