The Trojan women, played by a cast of extraordinary actresses, take the stage to tell us at first hand of the abuse they were subjected to by the victors of the war.
Even now, the Greek myths still point out the sins of the individual against the common good, the times when people let themselves be overcome by the worst feelings and commit atrocities or follow the dictates of ignorance. In the past – and still today – women have often been the targets of these attacks, raped during and after the war, mistreated or murdered despite the law, the victims of indifference, treated as second-class citizens in a world where there are always more important problems than their suffering …
In this production, women such as Hecuba, Cassandra, Helen, Andromache, Briseida and Polyxena, that is, the Trojan women, speak out to denounce those who decided their fate in the most absolute impunity, those who raped them with the excuse of the war or those who simply decided, without even taking them into account, how they would go down in history. They express themselves through the voices of an exceptional cast: actresses Aitana Sánchez Gijón, Alba Flores, Pepa López, Míriam scla, Gabriela Flores, Maggie Civantos, and – the only man – Ernesto Alterio.
The text has been written by Alberto Conejero, a playwright whose works have been performed in many parts of the world and who has written scripts for the classics (from Rinconete y Cortadillo to Macbeth). It is directed by Carme Portaceli, a familiar face with audiences at the Grec who began her career working with Fabià Puigserver and Lluís Pasqual in the 1980s. She is one of the most visible faces of the FEI – Factoria Escénica Internacional and is currently the artistic director of the Teatro Español in Madrid.
