Titans

In an empty, undefined space, a cosmic being, a sort of god with no specific sex but with a belly swollen, possibly by pregnancy, sits in a rocking swing, omnipo-tent and omnipresent. It/he/she has been there since before it all began, always in need of the presence of a companion, an imperceptible shadow that makes its peculiar world go round. According to the myth Titans ruled the universe since before even time existed, one of humanity’s earliest inventions. Why the need to imagine almighty deities? How has humanity faced the unknown? In this dark cosmic farce Laskaridis uses old myths as well as his very personal mythology stemming from his family, his home country, his love for the theatre of the ab-surd, circus, burlesque and the cinema. In Titans the artist uses his very distinct voice to make art without taking oneself too seriously.

Awarded one of the first Pina Bausch Fellowships in 2016, a grant that stimulates the search for new forms of expression, Laskaridis studied acting in Athens and direction in New York. Since 1995 he has worked with directors including Robert Wilson and Dimitris Papaioannou (also billed to appear in the Grec 2017), and he began directing stage plays and film shorts in 2000. In 2009 he founded the Osmosis Performing Arts Co. His latest creation is Relic, chosen to be part of Aerowaves 2015 (a hub and festival addressed to up-and-coming European choreographers). The production has been seen in about 20 international festivals, and in Barcelona it was put on at the Antic Teatre.
