From the courtly idyll that sets the scene to the clean, spare vision of a ‘perfect’ world, Shechter’s choreography embraces frenetic abandon and his signature understated intricacy in a work that confronts the pastoral horror of colonialism with a hint of sharp humour. An expanded company of 14 dancers is accompanied by an eclectic soundtrack that includes original music by Shechter himself.

The world is a wonderful place… but it is also dangerous, warns the author of choreographies that range from Uprising to his latest hit, Political Mother and the piece he now presents at the Grec, produced with support from Mercat de les Flors. Here, then, is a new work by an artist who was born in Israel and is a former member of the world-famous Batsheva Dance Company, although it was in Europe that he truly became one of the leading artists on the contemporary dance scene.
