A laboratory for sharing relevant practices in the creation and research for the production Climatic dances (Danses climàtiques). The production, which is still in the creation stage, will be previewed during this year's Barcelona Grec Festival.
As an ecosomatic, feminist and decolonial project, this laboratory proposes the recovery and practice of dance structures of the Macehual people (Mexico) which facilitate the act of becoming a mountain, and the application of practices of somatic origins that favour the transformation of the body through movement. The laboratory offers an understanding and experience of the body as a part of other bodies and realities: cities, seas, mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers, estuaries or continental, planetary or cosmic bodies. A body that, in turn, consists of other bodies: anatomical structures, bodies that make up the microbiota (bacteria, viruses and microbes), cellular, atomic and subatomic bodies, subtle and immaterial bodies.
As part of the post-pandemic context, the laboratory offers an exercise in mourning, awareness-raising and resistance to the extractivism of big global mining companies in relation to the part played by mountains in the creative water cycle, and in particular the Central Andes of Chile, in a context of climate change and global crisis.
A proposal aimed at dancers, choreographers and artists from other disciplines, as well as people active in other areas who appreciate movement and have experience in dance (any kind of dance) and somatic practices in general.
Climatic dances is previewed at La Caldera on 22 and 23 July, as part of the 2020 Barcelona Grec Festival.
