An all-star band from the southern States and a leading group in the revival of black music in Catalonia share the bill in a concert that promises a fantastic celebration of soul, blues and rock'n'roll music.
The revival that black music has enjoyed since the nineties has produced an explosive wave of groups in many different countries that breathe fresh life into classic works or seek new expressive possibilities. We will see this tonight, with a billing shared by two groups that, despite their differences, share a love for black music. The Royal Southern Brotherhood is a supergroup from New Orleans (Louisiana) formed in 2011 around the talent of vocalist and percussionist Cyril Neville. The members of this all-star band have included some of the finest musicians in the South, with the guitarists Bart Walker and Tyrone Vaughan recently joining. Together, they have created a sound that is their own, fusing soul, funk, old blues and rock, respectful of the past whilst looking to the future. Meanwhile, Catalonia is also producing groups inspired by black music from the twentieth century. One such is The Excitements. Fronted by explosive voice of Koko-Jean Davis, this band has won fans all over Europe with their heavy mixture of soul and old school rhythm'n'blues.
