The two protagonist of this dance performance meet again after twenty years. However, the connection between them continues to be so deep that we wondered whether they had been sharing the same sky all these years.
My neighbor sky is an international collaboration between Oguri, a Japanese dancer who lives in Los Angeles, and Andrés Corchero, a dancer and choreographer originally from La Mancha and now resident in Catalonia. They first met in Japan in 1986, when both were members of Min Tanaka’s dance company, Mai-Juku. They were reunited in Los Angeles in 2012, when they created a duet that they performed on two occasions at the Electric Lodge theatre. They later continued to work together at L’animal a l’esquena centre in Celrà, presenting the results at the Temporada Alta Festival in Girona. After seeing their performance in Los Angeles, someone said that: “although they seemed to go their separate ways on stage, their shadows were still dancing together in the larger view”. For, perhaps, the “neighbor sky” is also our own, the landscape in which we merge into the other, the place where we find our soulmates.
