In 1993, IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) commissioned the Argentine composer Martín Matalón to write a soundtrack for the restored version of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (1930), the masterpiece that creates a timeless future in the form of a great visual poem widely considered a wonder of visual art. Matalón’s music matches the power of the images themselves, his powerful score imbuing each scene with an almost tangible sound in a soundtrack that is not resigned to playing a secondary role. bcn216, conducted by Ernest Martínez-Izquierdo, will play Matalón’s composition live during the film screening. Resident at L’Auditori, bcn216 is one of the most prestigious ensembles devoted to performing contemporary repertoires.
