Alberto San Juan

With music in a comical tone. The famous actor and author shares the chronicle of his own ignorance about the history of Spain.

The myth of Don Juan is the starting point of a musical comedy which inquires into the relationship between our present and the cycle that got underway in 1492. Yes, this is Alberto San Juan's personal take on the Reconquest, the discovery of America and the expulsion of the Jews and Moors. How is the concept of male constructed in this territory and with this past? This is what the actor asks on-stage.

The show sprang from the desire to make visible and recount the invisible (or invisibilised) story of Spain, with the hope - even if far-fetched - of understanding our past and drawing lessons for life today, when the desire to dominate and the predatory zeal on which we have built our societies threatens to liquidate us.

This is the new play by Alberto San Juan, an actor and playwright who has a solid career in the world of film but prefers to work in theatre whenever he can. He not only performs plays but also writes and directs his own shows, as he does in this one.

Co-produced by the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico and EQM.

With the support of the ICEC (Catalan Institute of Cultural Companies) of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya; the Barcelona City Council; and INAEM (National Institute for the Performing Arts and Music) of the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport.

With funding from the European Union Next Generation Funds; the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (government of Spain); and Next Generation Catalonia (Generalitat de Catalunya).

At the representation of this show on July 6, there will be an audio-description and accompaniment service.
