A plane crashes on a desert island during the Second World War. The adults on the plane die from the crash, and the remaining passengers, a group of British children aged between six and twelve, must now survive on their own. They will have to face not just nature but also themselves in a context in which, as in the case of adults, all rules and boundaries have disappeared. The film, whose name is a reference to the Philistine god Beelzebub, also known as ’The Lord of the Flies’, was nominated for a Palme d’Or at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival.
