Jorge Drexler himself defines 12 segundos de oscuridad as one of his most melancholic recordings. It turns out that most of the songs on the album, which explore ideas about light and darkness, were conceived on an isolated beach where there is no electrical power, but where a nearby lighthouse shines its beam at 12-second intervals. The album includes versions of songs by the Brazilian group Titãs and by «Radiohead», the latter the first song Drexler has recorded in English.
