Trio

The latest works by an American drummer who left his mark on the Barcelona jazz scene, performed as a trio.

It may be more than ten years since he swapped Barcelona for Berlin, but the American drummer Joe Smith is still remembered in the Catalan capital, not only because he introduced unique methods of composition based on instant music patterns but also because he created the much-missed Asociación Libre Orkestra in El Raval. This artist, born in Illinois and trained in New York, has collaborated not only with jazz greats such as Guillermo Klein, Gorka Benitez, Chris Lightcap and Jorge Rossy, but also with Bill McHenry and Masa Kamaguchi, who will join him at Barcelona’s Grec Festival as a trio to present his latest works.

Plaça Real's Cava de Jazz once again this year joins Barcelona's Grec Festival, with a selection of great artists who, like Joe Smith and his musicians, offer us a series of high-quality artistic projects, contemporary creations all with particularly outstanding vocals and accessible to all audiences. Some performances take place in the Jamboree's new Sala 3, a third space in this venue used for live music, dance, small-format theatre, cabaret, exhibitions, conferences and events of all kinds.
