In the jazz world, tradition has a name: Wynton Marsalis and a legendary orchestra that celebrates its 25th anniversary by performing music by the greats.
If you are ever lost in New York and ask someone where you should go to hear the best jazz, they will probably send you to Broadway and 60th Street. This is where an ensemble that has become a legend, with the finest soloists, arrangers and musicians, has its home. This big band, one of the best in the world, has now been the resident band at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts for 25 years. So their concerts have now become birthday parties featuring music by the likes of John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Duke Ellington and many other jazz greats. The band leader is the great sax player and composer Wynton Marsalis, who played with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers as a young man. Today, Marsalis leads a band that has become a veritable legend, a reference for all fans of traditional jazz music.
