The photos on his album covers and his sales figures make it clear that in Jamie Cullum we find both jazz musician and pop star. And he combines these facets not only in his image but also, and more importantly, in his music. Accompanying himself at the piano, Cullum reaches new audiences, rolling back the vast boundaries of jazz even further. His first album, Pointless Nostalgic, was released when he was just 22 years old, at a time when the likes of Diana Krall and Norah Jones were demonstrating that fresh-sounding, accessible jazz could achieve popular success. Pointless Nostalgic caught the music industry’s attention and helped Cullum land a contract to produce his second album, Twenty Something, a disc containing such catchy tunes as Everlasting Love, and which rocketed him to international fame.
