In this, the fourth show by a company greatly loved by Barcelona audiences, the Moroccan acrobatic tradition is combined with contemporary creativity, music and comedy.
Well known to audiences in Barcelona, the Groupe Acrobatique de Tanger first appeared in the Grec Festival in Barcelona in 2008 with Taoub, a show directed by the Frenchman Aurèlien Bory, and then in 2010 with Chouf Ouchouf, directed by Martin Zimmermann and Dimitri de Perrot. These artists from Tangiers work with the finest creators on the European contemporary scene, the reason why they have collaborated in this show with Airelle Caen of Compagnie XY (2012 City of Barcelona Prize for the show Le Grand C) to once again drink from the well of popular Moroccan tradition. This time, they go back to the roots with Halka, a word that in their language means a festive celebration performed in a circle. This way they express the contradictions between the sacred and the profane worlds, and they ponder the role of women in North African societies, enveloped in poetry, percussion and songs that contribute spirituality, thus reminding us that traditional Moroccan acrobatics is inspired on the teachings of the fifteenth-century Sufi sage Sidi Ahmed Ou Moussa.
Dizzying pyramids and spectacular acrobatics in a spellbinding show that incorporates the French artist Abdeliazide Senhadji. He is the newest member of a company created on the beaches of Tangier in 2003, when a group of young Moroccans who were working on their technique became the ambassadors for their country’s traditional acrobatics.
