Festival de Dramatúrgia sobre la Crisi PIIGS

Perpetuummobile

The crisis that has changed the lives of millions of Europeans also has its translation in drama. From the stage, playwrights from across the continent explore the causes and consequences of the crisis in a festival that celebrates its third edition this year.

Initially, the festival was focused on drama from the countries most affected by the crisis, those that, known under the acronym of PIIGS (Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain) had been most punished by a crisis not only economic but also social and institutional. Since last year, however, the PIIGS Festival has opened up to authors from all over Europe, who were invited to submit their proposals. Those finally selected to take part this year are the Italian writers Chiara Boscaro and Marco Di Stefano, for their project 07.09.2012; Christina Kyriazidi, a Greek writer resident in Germany, for Les Muêts / The Mutes; the Bulgarian Yasen Vasilev for Ishmael; and, last but not least, the Finnish playwright Aino Kivi with her work Kari Krandi / My Brother the Hero.

Debates, workshops, talks for the public, theatrical performances and many more activities are all on the PIIGS Festival programme. Further information and the detailed programme will soon be announced on the festival website and on this page.
