Economic, social, institutional ... The crisis, in its many and various forms, takes to the stage at the PIIGS festival. For the second year, this event brings authors from several European countries to Barcelona.
Although last year was devoted particularly to authors from Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Greece and Spain, this year’s call for proposals was opened to playwrights throughout Europe. After a selection process, four authors were chosen to give dramatised readings of their plays in Barcelona: Tanja Sljivar, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, resident in Germany, with Aber die Stadt hat uns geschutzt; Emanuele Aldrovandi, from Italy, who will present Whales; Javier Sahuquillo Vallejo, the Spanish author of Los últimos de Filipinas; and oearia Tranou, a Greek writer whose play is entitled No Fear He is Leaving Us.
The festival programme also includes debates, workshops, public talks, theatre performances and many more activities, including a meeting of authors, a call for proposals aimed at fine and visual artists and the PIIGS Jove performing arts meeting for young people, organised jointly with Espai Via Barcino, Centre Garcilaso and Associació Teatral La Jarra Azul.
