Daurrodó

The Brazilian artist Cildo Meireles speaks about social and political issues, but also raises aesthetic and ethical questions in works that take the form of objects and installations. In them, Meireles attempts to give spectators a complete sensory experience. How can his works be turned into a stage production? Joan Baixas does just this in a project at the TNC created in cooperation with Antoni Miró and Vicent Todolí. The piece is set in an unconventional space, with a central stage around which spectators move to observe such works as Pano da roda, an installation that receives them at the corners of the hall; the stage collage Aperitius Melierenses; the giant broom in La bruixa; a work entitled Not to be or not to be, eis a questao, which brings spectators face-to-face with their own image; and a version of João Guimarães-Rosa’s short story The Third Bank of the River. Everything is made theatre by the personal language and stagecraft of this former director of Teatre de la Claca, who uses painting, puppets and masks combined with projected images. A show at once pictorial and theatrical that brings the work of one of the most important artists of the moment onto the stage. Humour, poetry and a close look at the contemporary world.
