Contemporary dance and circus merge in a large format production that explores the impact of the evolution of technology on our everyday lives.
Roberto Olivan puts on stage the result of a creative research project joining technology and the performing arts. He’s accompanied by dancers, circus performers, the electro-acoustic music of sound sculptor Laurent Delforge, and the stage lighting of Romain Tardy, one of the most important visual artists on the current digital scene.
The show ponders on the loss of control of the present. We are made of memories and imagination. We come from an inheritance and a historical tradition, therefore in the event of an uncertain present / future, the past becomes a superficial memory, a "souvenir" of a perfect time, a factor of alignment that helps us escape from our reality. But, was everything really that perfect? Or perhaps the nostalgia for an idealized past is nothing more than a trap that does not allow us to look towards the future?
Cuculand Souvenir invites us to reflect on how we have stopped using technology to move on to live it and on how we project the future while we build the past. Technology and the passing of time are two unstoppable and inalienable factors of our society. The speed of events and the constant changes, with their advantages and disadvantages, seem to have led us to live in a kind of absurd, crazy land or «cucland / cuckooland», where ironically our genius allows us to create tools that are more efficient than ever at going backwards, therefore making us both masters and slaves of technological advancement.
