One of the greatest names of Catalan musical, an exceptional stage director and an innovative symphonic orchestra/band, brings to stage the Catalan version of an Elvis Costello album based on a series of love stories inspired by the myth of Romeo and Juliet.
The ancient monastery of Verona where, according to tradition, died Juliet, the young co-star of Romeo and Juliet, still receives letters from people all over the world who write to the unfortunate lover. Even a local teacher was responsible for years to respond to those missives. Inspired by this story, in 1993 the rock musician Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet released an album composed of twenty songs, each of which was based on one of those stories of love, betrayal and heartbreak written by men and women who anonymously addressed Julieta. The string quartet and Costello himself performed the album at Palau de la Música Catalana in 1995, but, now in the Barts hall, we will be able to hear a Catalan version of these songs performed by Ivan Labanda, one of the most well-known names in the music scene in our country. The director and playwright Sergi Belbel directs the staging of these letters and love stories, and a quartet of soloists of the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès that takes, for the occasion, the name of Quartet Juliet is in charge of putting the music to it.
