Buika World Tour 2021

She is one of the most respected vocalists on the music-fusion scene. In fact, they say this Majorcan artist is in a genre all of her own. Now she is back at the Grec to play her hits and present some new songs, along with the black dancer Yinka Esi Graves.

Fusion is the story of her life, because it not only runs through her unclassifiable music, which includes the sounds of jazz, reggae, blues, soul and pop, but also through her biography. She was born in Majorca, the daughter of Equatorial Guinean parents who belong to the Bubi people. She had musical influences from an early age ranging from African and European pop to flamenco and Latin rhythms, as well as Asian music. Buika is a child of fusion, a shining example of cultural diversity, which has become her defining feature.

She is the personification of versatility and during her career she has shared the stage with a wide variety of talented artists, including Armando Manzanero, Chavela Vargas, José Luis Perales, Bebo Valdés, Chucho Valdés, Nelly Furtado, Anoushka Shankar, Chick Corea and Pat Metheny, among many others. She released Africa Speaks with Carlos Santana, an album that includes the number Yo me lo merezco, nominated for the Latin Grammy for the best rock song in 2020. She is one of the Latin music greats, a genre she defends in Miami, but which she also takes on tour around half the planet. She has performed her greatest hits around the world, including Un mundo raro, Volver, volver and Jodida pero contenta among many others. She will be playing the songs she loves most in a concert at the Teatre Grec, accompanied by great musicians and a dancer who, like her, breaks away from stereotypes. Yinka Esi Graves is an artist from London, the daughter of a Jamaican father and a Ghanaian mother who came to Spain attracted by flamenco. She has now become a well-known bailaora... although she has a Yoruba name. She explores the memory of flamenco, a rhythm she says has a spiritual character that is directly connected to African dances.

This year’s concert will be Buika’s fourth appearance at the Teatre Grec, where she first performed in 2008 with the flamenco and jazz fusion of her album La niña de fuego. She returned in 2013 to present La noche más larga and in 2015, this time accompanied by a tango band, Escalandrum, led by Daniel Pipi Piazzolla, the grandson of the legendary composer.

A Zoomin production.
