From El Somorrostro to the White House. Flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya's amazing life provides the basis for this music and dance spectacle.
To live to dance. To dance not to die. Carmen Amaya was born in El Somorrostro and went on to captivate audiences all over the world – including US President Roosevelt – with her heterodox flamenco dance. Amaya is the subject of a choreographic, poetic and emotive journey through her most intimate being and her tempestuous, mysterious personality. For, from the empty room in Begur where she died in 1963, the victim of a kidney disease that she fought by dancing, Amaya will recount her life in a production featuring contemporary and flamenco dancers engaged in a constant dialogue.
The show is produced by Trànsit Dansa, a company founded more than twenty-five years ago by the choreographer Maria Rovira (Mataró), winner of the 1998 National Dance Prize and the creator of such pieces as Extravío, Escape, Tierra y Luna and El salt de Nijinski.
